The Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria (ACPN) has called on the government and healthcare stakeholders to support community pharmacists in delivering quality healthcare, protecting lives, and strengthening public health nationwide.
Speaking at a press conference to announce October as Pharmacy Rx Emblem Month, National Chairman of ACPN, Ezeh Igwekamma, said the initiative reaffirms the central role of community pharmacists in promoting the health and well-being of Nigerians.
Igwekamma explained that the Rx emblem, globally recognised as a symbol of trust, professionalism, and healing, represents safe access to genuine medicines and expert pharmaceutical care.
“By dedicating this month to the Rx emblem, we are showcasing our community pharmacy premises as unique sanctuaries where patients and the public can confidently access genuine medicines, professional pharmaceutical care, and comprehensive healthcare services,” he said.
He noted that community pharmacies are more than dispensing outlets, describing them as vital health hubs within communities that provide professional advice, preventive care, and patient counselling.
In an era where counterfeit and substandard medicines continue to threaten public safety, Igwekamma said the Rx emblem serves as a beacon of assurance and authenticity, helping patients identify trusted centers for safe healthcare.
He stated that the ACPN will use the month-long celebration to raise public awareness that every pharmacy displaying the Rx emblem is a trusted center of excellence in healthcare delivery.
The initiative, he added, also aims to reinforce the bond between pharmacists and the communities they serve and to highlight their expanding roles in chronic disease management, preventive care, and wellness support.
“Community pharmacies are often the first point of contact for millions of Nigerians seeking health solutions,” Igwekamma said. “Let us use this month to boldly tell our story that community pharmacy remains the most accessible healthcare facility.”
