Determined to eradicate tuberculosis from the country, Kizito Clinic Lekki, Lagos with support from the National Agency for the Control AIDS (NACA), KNCV Tuberculosis Foundation and Lagos State programme for TB has installed state-of-the-art GeneXpert machines for detecting multi-drug resistant TB.

Speaking at the launching of GeneXpert machine at St. Kizito Clinic Lekki, representative of KNCV Foundation, Mr. Adedayo Adeyomoye, said his organisation is working with NACA, on a project that has installed 185 GeneXpert machines in all states of Nigeria.

Adeyomoye explained that 185 machines have been installed and these machines would help to diagnose TB better and faster. He explained: “There is a need for us to wake up and recognize that TB is now a global epidemic and as such, we all need to act fast to find patients with TB, to treat and to cure them and also teach the communities on prevention.

“TB is a curable disease and whenever somebody is coughing we should think “could this be TB”? For a very long time, TB has been in the back seat and thus little knowledge has been known of the disease.”

Germani said: “But this donation of GeneXpert machine would go a long way in eradicating TB diseases. With the machine diagnoses of TB and treatments would be faster. The same day patient visited hospital is the same day he would be diagnosed so, that we avoid lost of lives.

“We need to improve on awareness creation of TB so, patients can be able to visit hospitals whenever, they have symptoms of TB and keep their environment clean. Prevention is very important people should try to cover their mouths to avoid infecting other with the diseases.”
