Lagos State Government, yesterday, announced its plan to begin administering Measles-Rubella (MR) vaccines on January 20, 2026, as part of its routine immunisation and commitment to ensure a healthier future for residents.
Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Primary Healthcare Board, Dr Ibrahim Mustafa, revealed this during the inauguration of the Technical Working Group on Measles-Rubella Vaccine introduction into Routine Immunisation and the Q3 Routine Immunisation Review Meeting.
He said that the effort was aimed at safeguarding the future of the next generation while delivering quality health care services and making life better for the residents.
In his remark, the Immunisation Programme Coordinator of LSPHCB, Dr Adetola Akinpelu, said that the technical working group is critical as members are expected to be the engine room to drive the implementation across the state.
Meanwhile, a medical expert and Clinical Director, Oncology at the African Medical Centre of Excellence (AMCE), Dr Gabriel Boules, has emphasised the importance of early diagnosis in reducing breast cancer burden and mortality rates in the country.
According to him, early detection remains the most effective way to save lives from breast cancer.
However, AMCE has announced a 50 per cent discount on mammogram screenings throughout the month of October as part of activities to commemorate Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Boules, who stated this in Abuja, noted that with increased awareness, access to screening, and timely treatment, survival rates could significantly improve.
