I shall win again, says Ekwunife
THE Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, Uche Ekwunife, has expressed the confidence that she would win the fresh election ordered by the Court of Appeal in Enugu.
Fielding questions from journalists in Awka, Anambra State capital, Ekwunife assured her supporters that God would grant her victory in the election.
The lawmaker, who said that she had accepted the decision of the court that nullified her election in good faith, noted that she had begun campaigns at the grassroots to get re-elected.
She however denied some media publications alleging that she and her party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have been disqualified from participating in the court-ordered re-run.
Ekwunife described the publication as “blackmail and propaganda” by her political opponent, to dissuade the electorate in the constituency from voting for her again.
According to her, the court could not have disqualified me based on the outcome of the party primaries.
She said: “The allegation boils down to blackmail. It is only God that knows the end of a race; but I know He will see me through as He did in the previous election. God does not give victory based on blackmail because He abhors injustice.”
While appealing for support from the people of the area at the fresh election, Ekwunife denied that she had joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the election.
It could be recalled that the Election Petitions Tribunal for Anambra had upheld Ekwunife’s election in the petition filed by Chief Victor Umeh of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) on grounds of electoral malpractices.
However, the Court of Appeal sitting in Enugu had, on December 7, 2015, nullified Ekwunife’s election and ordered fresh poll to be done within 90 days.
