Just like his predecessors, Master Oluwadamilare Isaiah Olawuyi was recently honoured by Bishop Howells Memorial Grammar School in Bariga, Lagos State as “One day principal” for his academic excellence churned out during the junior secondary school one final exams.

The temporary office was created by the school to encourage and build the innate leadership skill in the pupil in JSS1 adjudged as the best student.

Speaking on what qualified him for the exalted seat, Olawuyi said he had always wanted recognition in anything he did like in his days at the primary school, where he represented his school in quiz and debate competitions to classmates’ envy.

“I want to thank the school for this. I am excited and feel honoured for this privilege as the ‘One day school principal’. I am sitting here because I was adjudged as the student in the JSS 1 class with the highest grade for today’s a one day principal.

“Part of the activities for today was that I was brought from my house to the school in the school’s principal official car. I conducted the assembly, inspected the classes before returning to the offices.

“What got me here began from my primary school days when I represented my primary school in debate, quiz and spelling bees’ competitions,” he said, adding that he wants to be a military lawyer to bring justice to the Nigerian Armed Forces.

An elated mother of Oluwadamilare, Mrs. Kemi Olawuyi said everything that happened was unto God’s glory.

“I want to thank God Almighty who made this possible. It is not by our might or our power. When the school told us that our son would preside over the school, as one day principal, I was elated. One thing my husband and I did for him was to encourage him to study his books always, especially during exams,” she said.

On his part, the principal, Tunde Oduwole said, “I took notice of Olawuyi in one of the extra-curriculum activities where he wowed everybody.

“I want to thank God for those who laboured before us from the pioneer principal, the late Babatunde Niwo and Bamidele56 Osunyomi we took over from. It has been a giant stride recorded in their years. It’s been very fruitful, glorious. And we are determined to build upon that.

“We are hopeful that with God on our side, we will take the school to greater height. It’s a school with great potentials; it can get better, stronger. It can be deeper in outlook and it can be higher. We believe in God that given His richness in our lives, we can better their records and make the school a lot better than we met it.

“In Bishop Howells, we want to say God has being revealing new talents and raising new stars. One of them is Oluwadamilare, today’s one day principal. It was in his year one at one impromptu debate that he came out from the audience.

“He was not the one to speak but spoke extemporaneously and he was just fantastic. He stunned the whole crowd and it was then that I said we must identify this boy and give him some support. He will probably be a great star from what we saw and he has proved us right,” he stated.
