Introducing SimbiHealth: Revolutionising access to mental, sexual health information for vulnerable communities

In a groundbreaking leap towards empowering vulnerable communities in low and middle income countries, SimbiHealth emerges as an innovative artificial intelligence (AI) app, shattering barriers to mental and sexual health information. Pioneered by Aliyu Oladimeji Olateju, the visionary lead developer and Chief Technology Officer at Sexual and Reproductive Health Initiative, this transformative application aims to address the critical access gap haunting sexual and mental health in African nations.

With a laser focus on the most marginalised populations, including women, those in internally displaced camps, and children, SimbiHealth heralds a new era in healthcare for underserved regions.

SimbiHealth responds to the dire need for comprehensive and reliable information on mental and sexual health, a scarcity often found in resource-constrained settings like Nigeria and other low middle-income countries in Africa. By harnessing the immense power of AI technology, this user-friendly platform emerges as a beacon, providing accurate and culturally sensitive insights while safeguarding privacy and confidentiality.

From mental well-being to reproductive health, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and family planning, SimbiHealth covers a broad spectrum of topics. Expertly crafted by healthcare professionals and specialists, the app ensures constant updates to maintain accuracy and relevance. Supporting multiple languages, SimbiHealth truly serves as a bridge, uniting diverse communities under the common goal of holistic well-being.

Aliyu Oladimeji Olateju, the driving force behind SimbiHealth and Chief Technology Officer at SRHIN, passionately underscores the pivotal role of technology in rectifying healthcare disparities. He stated that, “At SRHIN, we firmly believe that every individual, regardless of their background or location, deserves access to accurate and reliable health information. SimbiHealth embodies our unwavering commitment to enhance the lives of vulnerable individuals and communities through innovative technological solutions.”

In an exciting revelation, Aliyu announces SimbiHealth’s upcoming milestone which is an all-encompassing mental and sexual health curriculum. This eagerly anticipated addition aims to empower and educate survivors of gender violence and terrorism, further bolstering the app’s impact on overall well-being. SimbiHealth continues its mission to transform lives by equipping users with knowledge and support, helping them emerge stronger from adversity.

Furthermore, the lead designer on the project Fawaz Adewale Bello, also emphasized the design thinking, process and design done on the project. Recognising that the people who would be using the app might be coming from a place of distress, we have put into consideration the best form of the designs that can best resonate with them and enhance their user experience says Fawaz.
