CIArb seeks Africa’s rise on global ADR
The Chartered Institute of Arbitration (CIArb) Nigeria branch’s yearly conference, which aims at securing Africa’s ascent on the global Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) stage, is set to hold.
Chairman, Publicity Committee of the CIArb, Dr Yemi Agbelusi, in a statement, said the conference, which kicks off with the Young Members Group Conference on November 3, 2021, is a yearly assembly of professionals, technocrats, ADR practitioners, members of the public and invited speakers.
The three days conference with the theme Future Perfect: Securing Africa’s Ascent on the Global ADR Stage would be held at Jogor Centre, Ibadan, Oyo State.
“It provides unique opportunities for business networking and socialising amongst participants,” he said. According to him, the conference is expected to have a combination of physical and online attendance.
Some of the topics to be treated include: “Nigeria as a Seat of International Arbitration – a Closer Look”, “IP, Data Privacy in Arbitration Proceedings” and “Facing Moral and Ethical Dilemma: what would you do?”
Some of the speakers, to Agbelusi said are Mrs. Hairat Balogun, (Nigeria) Mr. Tunde Fagbohunlu, SAN (Nigeria) Hon Justice Ayokunle Faji of the Federal High Court, Mr. Kevin Nash, (SIAC), Mr. Edward Luke, (Botswana) Mr. Oluwatobiloba Moody, Anish Wadia, (India), Rukia Baruti, (Secretary-General AfAA), Diamana Diawara (ICC Africa), Mr. Isaiah Bozimo (AG Delta State) and a host of other professionals.
He noted that the governor of Oyo State, Oluseyi Makinde and the former Governor of Lagos State and Nigeria’s Hon. Minister for Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN) are expected to deliver opening and keynote addresses at the conference.
Agbelusi added that the highlights of the third day of the conference would be the induction of new members into the Institute and a gala nite to conclude the 2021 conference.
