Justice Uwaifo tasks judiciary on just society
Excited over the publication of his book, “Justice Uwaifo: A Legacy of Jurisprudential Wisdom and Substantive Justice” the retired jurist, Justice S.O. Uwaifo, has expressed the hope that the judiciary would continue to help in shaping the society.
Amid plans to present the book to the public on February 19, 2025, in Oriental Hotel, Lagos, the jurist said: I hope this work inspires continued discourse on the role of the judiciary in shaping a just society.
“It is my belief that the law, when interpreted with courage, integrity, and wisdom, can truly serve as a force for good.”
According to the programme of the event, the former governor of Edo State, Prof Oserheimen Osunbor, will be the chairman of the occasion.
Senior Partner, Kenna Partners, Prof Fabian Ajogwu (SAN), will review the book, while former attorney general of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr Kanu Agabi (SAN), will unveil and launch the book.
The writer of the preface, O.A. Omonuwa (SAN) explained that throughout his illustrious career on the Superior Court, Justice Uwaifo demonstrated an extraordinary ability to navigate complex legal issues with wisdom, fairness and a deep sense of justice.
His judgments, many of which are now seminal cases in our legal system, he said, have left an indelible mark on the interpretation and application of law in areas ranging from constitutional rights to commercial disputes, and from criminal justice to administrative law.
“This book is not merely a record of his decisions, but a testament to the enduring principles of justice that he upheld with such distinction,” Omonuwa declared.
