Kayode Akinsola publishes landmark books on governance, compliance

Legal and business strategist Kayode Akinsola has released two timely books tackling some of the most pressing issues in Nigeria’s corporate and regulatory sectors.

The first title, Corporate Governance in Nigeria: An Overview, was published last month and delves into the country’s troubled history with governance frameworks. Drawing on a wide range of case studies, Akinsola examines how the absence of effective oversight and poor enforcement mechanisms have contributed to organisational failures and stakeholder disputes. The book traces the development of governance codes in Nigeria, from rudimentary beginnings to the influential Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Code of 2003, highlighting both progress and persistent gaps.

Building on this foundation, Akinsola followed up with a second book this month: Compliance with Nigeria Regulatory Agencies: A Guide. Practical in tone and scope, the guide is intended to help businesses—both emerging and established—navigate Nigeria’s often complex regulatory architecture. Drawing lessons from local firms that have thrived despite the challenges, the book offers clear strategies for achieving ethical compliance and operational sustainability.

Together, the two publications provide a comprehensive resource for professionals, entrepreneurs, and policymakers seeking to understand the interplay between corporate accountability and regulatory expectations in Nigeria.

Akinsola, known for his advisory roles in legal and corporate governance circles, said the books were inspired by years of experience working with companies grappling with opaque regulatory demands and fragmented governance systems.

With these works, Akinsola aims to promote a culture of accountability, transparency, and compliance that can foster long-term business success in Nigeria’s evolving economic landscape.
