Lagos judiciary introduces e-affidavit, CTC, others

CJ Lagos, Kazeem Alogba

Lagos state judiciary has digitized its processes and introduced electronic affidavits, Certified True Copy (CTC), Forms and Letters. This is as a Lagos-based lawyer, Mr Akeem Aponmade, has lauded the Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Kazeem Alogba for introducing such innovations.

The lawyer said the developments would bring about ease of legal proceedings in the state. He therefore urged the Chief Judge to also establish a formal channel solely to receive feedback on the system from lawyers and other users. He said: “Most innovative interventions, regardless of how well thought out, will have some challenges at the initial stage.

“A channel intentionally created for receiving feedback will help in addressing the challenges and fine-tune it to achieve the desired objective.” Aponmade said the developments have the potential to advance the court’s digital space.

The new initiatives were done in addition to E-filing and E-probate that have been in operation to improve easier and faster processing of Letters of Administration and grant of probate.

Lagos Judiciary said this was done to ensure that disputes are resolved fairly and economically by leveraging enabling technology with inherent seamless integration of the court processes, structures, and administration.

It said it has also provided automated case processing, payments, and communication through this online court system to make it easy for various parties to have timely access to pertinent case-related information.

This was disclosed in a circular tagged: ‘LagosCoMiS, now live as Lagos State Judiciary introduces e-affidavit, CTC and Forms & Letters.’ The circular also explained how the e-affidavit and other virtual platforms could be created.
