Nigerian actress, Lota Chukwu has added another feather to her cap with a documentary film titled “I’m Not Fine.”

I’m Not Fine depicts the mental health struggles of adults in Nigeria, with six individuals telling their life stories and detailing their struggles with mental health, especially pertaining to issues like depression and attempted suicide.

Viewers can expect the raw emotions skillfully depicted in this superb piece of storytelling to affect their views, change some of their perspectives and certainly incite feelings in them.

An apparent passion project, I’m Not Fine is just the movie Nigerians need right now. Not only does it tell the stories that need to be told, it teaches that depression and mental health struggles should and must be talked about.

The vulnerability shown by the subjects of the film, further proves the importance of speaking up and getting the help needed to navigate through the difficult phase of struggling with mental health. This is undoubtedly one movie that will make the right kind of impact.

I’m not fine is the second film from the stables of Cowrie films. It is available for viewing on YouTube.

Her second attempt at directing a film, the documentary proves that Chukwu’s talent is not limited to acting alone and the same holds true with her passion.

Speaking on the documentary, Chukwu stated, “The basic reason why I decided to do this, as heavy as it is, is because I feel like we live in a society where depression or any other form of mental illness is treated as a taboo.”

She added, “I’m doing this to make people feel a little less alone, if anything to make you realize that there is someone out there who has lived your life in one way or the other.”
