Man arraigned over unregistered cosmetics products
THE National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has arraigned a businessman, Timothy Alaoma, before a Federal High Court, Ikoyi for allegedly selling and distributing of cosmetic products without registration.
According to NAFDAC counsel, Umar Shamaki, the suspect resides at No. 3, Olasheyinde Street, Iba, Lagos. Shamaki stated that the matter was initially slated for arraignment on June 8, 2015, but had to apply for abridgement of time as a result of the accused health status.
The counsel to the accused, K. Utong informed the court that the accused has been very sick.
The accused is facing two count charges bordering on sales and distribution of cosmetic products on or about February 21, 2014 at block one Tailoring APT Market within the jurisdiction of the court.
The prosecutor said that the suspect did that through his company, Classic make up compact plus foundation and cjany total coverage foundation without registration.
The action, he said is an offence contrary to section 1 of food, Drugs and Related products (Registration etc) Act Cap F 33 Laws of the federation of Nigeria 2004 and punishable under Section 6(1)(a) of the same Act.
He pleaded not guilty for the offences leveled against him. Justice Okon Abang thereafter adjourned to July 1, 2015 for trial.
