IN a bid to ensure quality of information transmission, Kaduna State Governor, Mukhtar Ramalan Yero has commissioned two 50 Kilowatts AM Digital Transmitters for the Kaduna State Media Corporation (KSMC) to improve the services of the state owned media outfit.

Commissioning the equipment on Wednesday, last week, Yero said the installation of the digital transmitters would ensure that signals from the broadcast station transcend the entire Northern Nigeria.

According to the governor, “the procurement of these equipment will no doubt have a multiplier effect on the services of the Corporation as it afford us the opportunity to now upgrade the Zaria and Kafanchan substations to standard FM Stations”.

He also explained that “in line with our policy to fully ensure that all parts of Kaduna State have access to information through Radio, we have approved the establishments of two additional Sub-stations in Lere and Birnin Gwari Local Government Areas.”

Besides, Yero has also directed the Ministry of Works to carry out complete rehabilitation of the Headquarters of the KSMC, the Katabu Transmitting Station as well as the Zaria and Kafanchan Sub-stations.

On staff welfare, the Governor noted with displeasure the huge backlog of unpaid allowances to artists and casual staff saying, “as a responsive government, we cannot fold our arms and see our citizens suffer undue hardships, I hereby direct the management of the Corporation to forward within the next 24 hours all outstanding allowances and wages of these Artists to my office”.

“I am glad to note that the allowances of Artists and other sundry staff of this Corporation have been captured in the 2015 budget. Let me direct therefore that the management should review the allowances of all existing Artists by at least 400 per cent”

Yero called on management and staff of the media corporation to imbibe good work ethics and strong maintenance culture, saying that “with the kind of money invested on this institution, you must ensure effective handling of all equipment at all times”.

“As a reciprocation of government’s gesture, it is expected that the Corporation will tremendously improve on its revenue base. Let me direct all Ministries, Department and Agencies (MDA’s) in the State and Local Government Areas to henceforth patronize KSMC as a means of boosting their revenue base.”

He also pledged to digitalize the Television arm of the Corporation with a view to making it a world standard TV station.
