MMA, FAAN intensify routine check to detect COVID-19
Authorities at the Murtala Mohammed Airport (MMA) Lagos have scaled up efforts to detect coronavirus (COVID-19).
They said the airport is the gateway to country, hence the need to screen every passenger coming in to the country so as to safeguard the public.
Consequently, the authorities have partnered with Daraju Industries in a bid ensure maximum disease surveillance.
Addressing newsmen in Lagos, Regional General Manager, South West/ Airport Manager, MMA, Victoria Shin-Aba, said they might still have cases because people are still coming into the country, but they are making sure that every body coming into the country is properly checked.
Shin-Aba who spoke through International Terminal Manager, Olatokunbo Arewa, stated that they are positioned to detect any passenger showing symptoms related to corona virus.
“That person will be isolated. Investigations would be carried out, and if it is confirmed, the person will be quarantined.
“We are partnering with the Lagos state government. We have arrangement to move those people without contact with anybody. We have special route to transport the person. The Lagos State government has already provided the facility where they will undergo thorough treatment.”
She encouraged the companies producing disinfectant to also go into the schools and markets where people gather and assist so that the virus will not spread.
Shin-Aba continued: “We also have dispensers all over the airport and also made sure it is available for people to use.
”We have medical team on ground, they have their kit. Immediately the person shows symptoms they will put on their kit and handle the person.”
She added that the Daraju industries partnered the airport to stop the spreading by donating a lot of product.
Chief Operating Officer, Daraju industries, Captain B. Mukherjee, said the partnership was as a result of its Cooperate Social Responsibility.
He said the world is fighting the dreaded disease of Coronavirus with resources they have as it continues to cause havoc across the world.
The CEO said the country reported its index case of the virus through an Italian man that came through the airport hence their duty to protect and prevent the spread of Coronavirus at the Point of Entry.
He urged the populace to always seek preventive measures and also as part of its CRS, Daraju industries approach the authority to donate items to help stop the spread.
