Muslims urged to take advantage of Ramadan, upgrade spiritual status

NASFAT Deputy Chief Missioner Imam AbdulLateef Bello, presenting a gift of appreciation to Guest Lecturer, Al Mufassir, Lagos Central Mosque, Imam (Engr.) Shakiru A. Gaffar who delivered lecture during 1438AH/2018 Pre-Ramadan Lecture organized by NASFAT Youth Wing in Lagos.

Muslim faithful across the country have been urged to explore the opportunities offered by the holy month of Ramadan to upgrade their spiritual status.

This call was made by the Guest Lecturer and Al Mufassir, Lagos Central Mosque, Engr. Shakiru Gaffar, at the Pre-Ramadan lecture themed ‘Piety: Standing Firm’ organized by the Youth Wing of Nasrul-lahi-li Fathi Society of Nigeria (NASFAT) in Lagos.

Gaffar, also known as Mofeshaye said observing fast during the period of Ramadan makes Muslims go spiritual with Allah, adding that there are numerous lessons to be learn during the period of Ramadan.

He said: “Ramadan has come to teach us to be steadfast in time of hunger. There are some classes of people who don’t have any means of feeding, but we have the means to take the three square meal but just because we are fasting we are doing away with a square meal . That is teaching you that there are some people whose standard of living is worst than what we are experiencing as somebody who is fasting.

Gaffar added that the economic situation of the country should not trigger fear.

“It is a collective experience to all Nigerians. As Muslims, Allah as told us in the Holy Quran that we should expect that our faith would be tested at any point in time. Bad economic situation should not lead us to acting outside the dictate of Allah, committing sins or any thing that would attract the rot of Allah” he said.

He urged Muslims to manage whatever they have as a means and continue to pray to Allah to guide them against whatever hardship the economic situation may cause.

“We pray that Allah would help Nigeria as a country, take care of this situation so that we can witness better time,” he said.

Gaffar further advised Muslims to review their faith with Allah and take cognizance of the fact that as Muslims they are bound to be tested by Allah.

“We say we believe in Him. He will test us as regards the believe. Allah said He his going to test our faith with what we have phobia for, you can see what is happening to us in Nigeria, people have phobia for poverty, and Allah tested us with it. That was what led to people stealing what their generation cannot exhaust. Whereas, Allah said, do not fear poverty, I am in charge of everything. I provide for birds flying, fishes in the ocean, they don’t work and I provide for them everyday,” he said.

National Youth Secretary of NASFAT, Ismaheel Ibrahim said the rationale behind the programme is to prepare the minds of Muslim with the proper perspective during the period of Ramadan.

“The lecture is to make Muslims conscious of their expectations during the blessed month of Ramadan. They would move into the month of Ramadan with the right spirit, proper perspective and necessary enlightenment”, he said

The Chairman, State of Osun Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Barr. Zikrullahi Hassan said, Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar a month which is exclusive for fasting between 29 or 30 days. It is also a month where Muslim are known to pray more than other usual month. It is a month were Muslims are expected to do a lot of charity, learn more about their creator and move closer to their creator” he said.

He urged Muslim youth to use the month of Ramadan judiciously and avoid all what is against the tenet of Islam.

“The youth are not suppose to be use as engine of destruction by politicians, they are not suppose to involve themselves in the act of criminalities like armed robbery.

They should desist from anything that would spoil their name or family name and fast in accordance with the obligation and the precept of prophet Muhammad (SAW)” he said.
