New Imam of Ibadan for turbanning today

The new Chief Imam of Ibadan land, Sheikh AbdulGaniyy Abubakri Agbotomokekere will today be turbanned as the 18th Chief Imam of Ibadan land by the League of Imams and Alfas.

The new Chief Imam of Ibadan land, Sheikh AbdulGaniyy Abubakri Agbotomokekere will today be turbanned as the 18th Chief Imam of Ibadan land by the League of Imams and Alfas.

This followed the death of the former Chief Imam of Ibadan land, Sheikh Baosari Haruna, who died on April 8 at the age of 95years.

Addressing a news conference in Ibadan last Monday, Alhaji Mustapha Oyero, Chairman, Planning Committee and Chairman Ibadan Muslim Community said that the turbanning would take place at Lekan Salami Sport Complex, Adamasingba, Ibadan.

Oyero said that members of the League of Imams and Alfas in Yoruba land including Edo and Delta states are expected to grace the occasion in large numbers.

He said that Gov. Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State would be the Chief host while Oba Samuel Odugade 1, Olubadan of Ibadan land is expected as the royal father of the Day.

Other dignitaries expected at the event are Ahaja Aminat Abiodun, the Iyalode of Ibadan land as the mother of the Day while Alhaja Sekinat Adekola, Iya Adinni of Yoruba land would be the matron of the Day. Alhaji Yekini Adeojo, Seriki Musulumi of Yorubaland would serve as the Chairman of the occasion.

Alhaji Oyero said that the 80-year old new Chief Imam of Ibadan after the turbanning would thereafter lead the congregation in the first Jumah service at Oja’Oba Central Mosque, Ibadan.

He advised guests to be at the venue of the programme as early as possible  to avoid rushing and not to miss anything from the epoc making event.

Oyero expressed the appreciation of the committee to Gov. Abiola Ajimobi and other Islamic titled holders for their financial support towards the successful hosting of the programme.

Dignitaries at the Monday conference were Prof. Dawud Noibi, Executive Secretary, Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN); Alhaji Abdullateef Oyelade, Asiwaju Musulumi of Yorubaland; Alhaji Kunle Sanni, Chairman Muslim Community of Oyo State and the new Imam, among others.
