Dr. Christianah Okenla has been installed as the seventh President of Rotary Club of Lekki Golden, District 9112. Okenla, the club’s third female president, was inaugurated at a ceremony in Lagos recently themed “One World, One Community”, and was presided over by the District Governor, District 9112, comprising parts of Lagos and Ogun States, Lanre Adedoyin.
Not less than 250 rotarians, dignitaries and guests were in attendance among whom were Past District Governors, Dr. Michael Olawale-Cole and Omotunde Lawson.
Also, 25 new members were inducted during the investiture by Adedoyin, describing it as the largest membership expansion in the club’s recent history. He commended Okenla for a great start. During the event, three honorary rotarians were installed while awards were presented to some persons for outstanding service and humanitarian contributions.
In her acceptance speech, Okenla outlined an ambitious agenda aligning it with Rotary International seven areas of focus with particular emphasis on health, education and community economic development.
“The needs of humanity are universal, and service knows no boundaries; what we do here can inspire, empower and uplift communities everywhere,” Okenla said.
The star project for Okenla Rotary year is “Pack-to-School” project which would provide educational materials to underserved students. The club has already sponsored ten youths to the annual Rotary Youth Leadership Academy (RYLA) at Sea School, Apapa, Lagos.
Okenla also announced plans to expand health outreach programmes, building on successful initiatives like the Safe Start project and Dress-a-Dream programmes for maternal and child health.
She pledged to lead with empathy, integrity, and excellence, the virtues inherited from her late father, Chief Christopher Okhiria and mother, Deaconess Agnes Okhiria, pledging to maintain the club’s tradition of carrying out innovative community projects, and strong membership drive.
