Mimiko bags postgraduate medical college award

ONDO state Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko will be decorated with an honorary fellowship award by the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria at its convocation ceremony holding today, Thursday.

According to the College’s Registrar, Prof. Wole Atoyebi, the Senate of the institution considered Mimiko for the prestigious award in view of what was described as his “monumental achievement in the health sector over the last six years “adding that his nomination for the award was approved as part of the activities of the 32nd convocation ceremonies of the college this year.The event is billed for the college premises in Ijanikin, Lagos.

The National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria was formally established in 1979. Its main function is to produce specialists in all branches of Medicine and Dentistry, determine postgraduate academic standards and also accredit medical institutions in Nigeria for professional postgraduate training of medical doctors and Dental Surgeons.

Mimiko had before now received several awards and commendations for good governance and his government’s initiatives in the health sector.
The World Bank Team on performance Based Financing (PBF) had during a visit to Mimiko few weeks ago commended him for “running a unique and reform-oriented health system which is globally acknowledged and well accepted”.

The World Bank Team leader on Performance Based Financing (PBF), Dr. Oluwole Odutolu, said “Our visit to some primary health care facilities across the state on the Performance Based Financing revealed that Ondo state is a reform oriented state that deserves World bank collaboration to deepen its reforms”.

While scoring the state high in primary healthcare delivery system, Odutolu acknowledged that the establishment of the State Primary Healthcare Development Board by the government has also added value to basic healthcare in the State.

The Governor Olusegun Mimiko-led government has been globally acclaimed for its success in polio eradication drive, mortality rate reduction initiatives which gave birth to the now popular Mother and Child hospital which has become a global reference point as well as the creation of a Medical village which has Kidney, Trauma, and Diagnostics centers.
