The Director-General of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), Dr. Halilu Ahmad Shaba, has called on legal practitioners within the agency to update their knowledge in the field of space law, which has a direct bearing on the development of the space industry in the country.

Shaba made this call during the inauguration of the committee on the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed with Olisa Agbokoba Legal (OAL) on space regulation licensing and other related activities of inspection, supervision and enforcement at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja.

The NASRDA boss, who described the composition of the agency’s workforce as multidisciplinary, stated that there was a need for all members of staff, irrespective of their disciplines, to work together and ensure that the vision of the space agency is realised.

He appreciated the concern and efforts of the OAL in providing an effective legal framework for the smooth operations of the agency, which according to him, is evident in its recent campaigns both on print and electronic media.

Shaba, who inaugurated the MOU Implementation Committee, charged its members to critically examine its provisions and ensure proper implementation, which must reflect in the accelerated development of the Nigerian Space Programme.

Chairman of the Committee, who is also the Head, of Legal Services of the Agency, Isah Yahaya, a lawyer, commended the effort of the DG NASRDA in supporting policies and programmes that are geared toward the actualisation of the Nigerian Space programme.

He promised that the committee will do all within the confines of the law to achieve its aim and objectives in the interest of the agency and the nation.
