According to the body, the need to build capacity in the maritime sector cannot be overemphasised.

In a statement ahead of their capacity building course, its National President, Angus Obinna Chukwuka, stated that good practice in maritime is world apart from general or conventional practice.

He said that lawyers should develop their online research capacity.

His words: “They should embrace online filing, service of processes and adjudication. This must be in collaboration with the judiciary.

“The future of legal practice in Nigeria rests on the tripod of specialisation, partnership and ICT proficiency.

“A lawyer who continues with sole proprietorship, general practice and manual computers or typewriters may be endangering his professional future. He is clearly not tomorrow’s lawyer.”

Chukwuka called on lawyers and law firms to come together to form a consortium.

He said within the consortium, there should be specialisation or division of labour.

Chukwuka said the capacity building training with the theme, ‘Capacity building in admiralty law and practice’ will be held at Sheraton Hotels, Abuja, Nigeria on March 21 and 22, 2022.

He encouraged lawyers to register for the two-day maritime capacity building course and attend.
