NANTA plans zonal election ahead of golden jubilee

The National Association of Nigerian Travel Agencies (NANTA) has notified its members of the timetable for its forthcoming zonal elections across the country.

The elections are part of the preparations for its Annual General Meeting (AGM), which is slated to be held in Ibadan, Oyo State. The AGM would mark NANTA’s 50 years of existence.

A statement on Wednesday by the association’s Chairman of the Elections Committee, Dr Dagunduro Olatokunbo, said that the zonal elections were in accordance with its constitutional framework.

Dagunduro, who is also the Second National Deputy President, NANTA, said that the zonal elections serve as a critical pathway to the national elections, which is a higher wire for other contestants interested in vying for positions on the National Executive Council (NEC).

He emphasised that elected officers at zonal and national executive council positions were eligible to serve a maximum of two terms of two years each, subject to the approval of the Board of Trustees.

Olatokunbo, expressed that Lagos State would flag off the zonal elections on February 12, 2026, while the Eastern Zone, headquartered in Port Harcourt, would hold its election on February 19.

Also, Kano Zone would conduct its election on February 24, while the Federal Capital Territory’s election would take place on February 25, 2026.

The Western Zone, which would also host the national elections and AGM, would conclude the zonal process by validating its new zonal leadership on February 26, 2026.

Dagunduro assured members of a transparent, credible, and fair electoral process, urging aspiring candidates at both zonal and national levels to study and strictly adhere to the electoral code of conduct.

He added: “In its 50 years of existence, NANTA has matured beyond electoral flaws and remains committed to keeping the association above primordial interests.

“Ibadan will also host NANTA’s golden jubilee, which is expected to be a landmark event.” President of NANTA, Dr Yinka Folami, expressed excitement over the forthcoming AGM.
