NRC records 12.25% growth in passenger service
The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has recorded a 12.25 per cent growth in passenger service in the second quarter of the year. In Q2 2023, a total of 474,117 passengers travelled via rail, relative to 422,393 reported in the corresponding quarter of 2022.
A report released on Wednesday by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) titled, ‘Rail Transportation Data (Q2 2023)’ stated that the volume of goods/cargos transported in Q2 2023 stood at 56,029 tons, compared to 31,197 tons recorded in Q2 2022.
In terms of revenue generation, N1.1 billion was received from passengers during the reference period, showing an increase of 83.88 per cent from the N598.74 million recorded in the same quarter of the previous year.
Similarly, the report noted that N188.03 million was collected from goods/cargos conveyed in Q2 2023, up by 105.04 per cent from N91.7 million received in Q2 2022.
In addition, other receipts amounted to N18.74 million, indicating a decline of 62.31 per cent in Q2 2023, from the N49.73 million collected in Q2 2022.
