The Metrowoman Marketplace debuts on Guardian TV next Tuesday


Metrowoman Limited, a media outfit that celebrates successful women, has come up with a business showcase series designed to promote products and services initiated by women entrepreneurs.

CEO of Metrowoman, Chinenye Nnoli, said in a press statement that the five-minute video interview series to be called The Metrowoman Marketplace, would tell the stories behind emerging brands founded by Nigerian women on digital platforms.

She said the programme would provide immediate opportunity for viewers to access the brands at a discount using dedicated codes generated on the show. Her words: “The target is to interview 100 female entrepreneurs and the top five entrepreneurs with the most comments, likes and feedback on their product offerings will be rewarded.”


As an entrepreneur, who understands the challenges of running businesses in Nigeria, Mrs Nnoli said she was inspired to start the programme to celebrate women who dared to start and build successful indigenous brands despite the harsh business climate in Nigeria.

“In a country that has the highest percentage of female entreprenuers at 41 per cent, the show seeks to showcase and celebrate women who are thriving despite the harsh business climate and are undeterred in their resolve to build their businesses. A lot of these women have unleashed their creativity in the marketplace and are unstoppable. They are invaluable assets to the economy. They deserve all the support they can get”, she said.

The lawyer by training said the show’s focus is on women whose brands are produced using locally-sourced raw materials, which would invariably promote government’s drive to encourage made in Nigeria products.

The media entrepreneur added that the show seeks to inspire other women who may lack direction or the required drive on how to start a business to learn from the success stories of those interviewed.

She added: “This project also contributes to the move to buy and consume made-in-Nigeria products, give hope to aspiring entrepreneurs and validate their dreams by showing them that they can achieve anything they set their minds to.

“We are excited about the reception of this idea already. We have so many female entrepreneurs lined up and you will be surprised and really excited by how far our women have gone, and their invaluable contributions.”

The first episode of The Metrowoman Marketplace is scheduled to premiere online on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at 6:00pm on Guardian TV ( and the Metrowoman website (
