A Retrospect Into Johnny’s Room Live
Johnny’s Room Live was the first ever live concert by Mavin’s alternative/indie genre star -Johnny Drille. The sold-out concert had more than three thousand fans in attendance. This article is a retrospect into the life of the star of Johnny’s Room Live- Johnny Drille.
Tell us about your journey into music?
have been making music since I can remember but I started professionally in 2013 when I clocked out of Project Fame with the 10th position, but before 2013 I have always been making music. Both my parents are pastors so I started music from the children choir to intermediate choir and then the adult choir.
I started learning to produce in 2006 with cassette recorders before I got my computer in 2007. The first song I ever put out was in 2013 after I left Project Fame. So, I have been doing music for as long as I can remember.
What inspires your music?
I’m inspired by a lot of things but mostly by love. I like to think that I’m a hopeless romantic. I’m also inspired by family, God, faith and my experiences.
What should fans look forward to from you this year?
This year has been very eventful for me because I travelled out for the first time to perform on Big Brother Naija. I had four Headies nominations and I had my first ever live show, Johnny’s Room Live. But, there are still a lot of plans like dropping more music videos and doing more live shows before the year runs out.
Do you play any instrument(s)?
I play some instruments like drums, car horn, percussion, a little of bass guitar, a little bit of the acoustic guitar and I’m most proficient with the keyboard.
About your concert, Johnny’s Room Live, did you foresee the type of attention it generated?
I had hoped people would show up but I was kind of like, “Oh! my God” because it is my first ever live show so I wasn’t quite sure what to expect if the same response I got on social media will be the same response I will get on the day of the event.
As soon as I entered the venue the whole place was packed full. I actually began to see people come during sound check around 2 pm. I went home to prep and when I arrived at the venue it was packed full. The concert was sold out as the two thousand wristbands for entrance were exhausted by 7:30 pm and the event started by 7 pm with more people still coming for the event. It was quite amazing with an attendance of over three thousand people. I definitely feel blessed with the most amazing fans and supporters.
Should we expect any more collaboration this year from you?
I would love to do a lot of collaborations. I have actually done some few collaborations but they are not out yet. The most recent collaboration was with Simi. I would love to work with Adekunle Gold, Asa, Brymo and many others.
Do you have any advice for an aspiring musician?
As an upcoming artist, it may not be quite rosy but your passion will sustain you during this time so keep honing your craft. The music industry is crowded and anyone who is coming into the industry has to have a distinct sound. Be respectful and hope for the best.
