The dance drama series tells the story of a girl named Ntombi (Noxolo Dlamini), a skilled dancer who wants her shot at stardom but is held back at her dead-end job by her duty to financially support her family.

We see how Ntombi tries to juggle her desire and responsibility by forming a dance crew named The Trollies and joining a street dancing competition.

The show also stars Prince Grootboom, Given Stuurman, Zamani Mbatha, Anga Makubalo, and a host of others.

Along with the sickest dance moves from across Africa, Jiva also promises to feature premium South African music. In celebration of the series being released on the 24th of June 2021, here’s a taste of some of the banging music that will be served to viewers.

Y-Tjukutja” by Uhuru featuring DJ Buckz, Oskido, Professor & Yuri Da Cunha

This song was released back in 2013 and rocked the airwaves across the continent. The song went on to win Best Collaboration of the Year at the MTV Africa Music Awards in 2014. “Y-Tjukutja” is Xhosa for “Shake your body.”

“John Cena” by Sho Madjozi

This 2019 song is a gqom (a genre of South African electronic dance music) song about the American professional wrestler and actor, John Cena. It features lyrics in Tsonga, Swahili, and English performed by Sho Madjozi in a hip-hop style.

“Ses’fikile” by Dladla Mshunqisi featuring Tipcee

Released in 2018 from Dladla Mshunqisi’s debut album titled “Umshunqo.”

“Move For Me” by Cassper Nyovest featuring Boskasie

Released in 2018, from the award-winning rapper and singer’s debut studio album.

“Fetch Your Life” by Prince Kaybee featuring Msaki

The title of this song, released in 2019, is the mantra of Ntombi, the show’s protagonist. She listens to the song whenever she needs the motivation to keep pursuing her dreams.

Don’t forget to watch Jiva when it drops on Netflix on the 24th of June 2021.
