Something has shifted in how Nigerians choose to spend their weekends. The options used to be malls, the beach, bars, and staycation hotels. Now, a growing number of city dwellers are driving past all of that, heading for open land, green stretches, and the particular quiet that only a farm can offer. Agritourism has arrived in Nigeria, and it is moving faster than anyone expected.

Farms in Nigeria are opening their doors not just to sell produce but to host people. Visitors come to walk the land, eat food grown metres from where they’re sitting, watch and pet animals up close, join planting sessions, or simply do nothing but rest from the bustle of the city.

Here are 3 farm resorts that are living up to their names.

1. Xtralarge Farms and Resorts, Ota-Idiroko, Ogun State

Explore an Xtra Large Farm showcasing vast agricultural land, modern farming techniques, crop cultivation, livestock management, and sustainable food production in Nigeria.
Xtralarge Farm

The most talked-about name in Nigerian agritourism. Founded by Dr Seyi and Dr Moji Davids, who left the US to build it, Xtralarge sits on sprawling land just outside Lagos and functions as both a working farm and a full resort that offers a pool, spa, cinema, restaurant, guided farm tours, and overnight accommodation. It is the clearest proof that farming and hospitality are not a contradiction.

2. Almat Farms, Kuje, Abuja

Almat Farms

Almat Farms, an hour’s drive southwest of Abuja, is perhaps the most fully realised version of what Nigerian agritourism is reaching toward. The farm sits on over 40 hectares of open countryside. It offers guided tours through crop fields and animal enclosures, horseback riding, ATV rides, fishing, and a swimming pool, all on a working agricultural land that produces organic vegetables and protein-rich hay for livestock.

3. Green House Farm and Resort, Nasarawa

Green House Farm

Green House Farms and Resort sits on the border of Abuja and Karu, off the Nyanya-Karshi Road, far enough from the city that the drive itself is part tour in itself. The farm presents itself as a village powered by nature, and the phrase holds up on arrival. Rooms are individual standing structures with balconies overlooking either greenery or the mountains beyond, and the design runs toward an authentic village aesthetic rather than resort polish. Guests can move through the farm’s crop fields, try their hand at planting and harvesting, and eat from the produce they’ve just handled. The on-site restaurant runs on whatever the farm yields that day.
