Angelina Jolie Speaks To Syrian Refugees At Zataari Camp

Filmstar and U.N Special Envoy Angelina Jolie visited Zaatari refugee camp in Jordan on Sunday (January 28) with two of her children, 13-year-old Zahara Jolie-Pitt and 10-year-old Shiloh Jolie-Pitt. Jolie spoke to a Syrian refugee family who have been living in the camp for five years.

Nabil Outhman fled his hometown Nawa, in Deraa governorate and came to Jordan with his four children. Since then his wife gave birth to another two children, including 13-day-old baby Laith. Jolie also visited UNHCR’s funded “Tiger Girls ” programme that aims to empower young refugee girls through a range of academic and social skills courses.

The programme is supported by 11 Syrian female coaches who volunteer to teach the 12-17 year old girls mathematics, Arabic, English and social skills. Zaatari camp, once an empty desert, has been transformed into a bustling slum city, with a population of around 85,000 people.
