Afrobeats singer Sarah Aderibigbe, popularly known as Ayra Starr, has disclosed that she recently underwent major surgery and is taking time away from public activities to recover.

The singer shared the health update through her Instagram Story on Thursday after fans noticed that she had become less active online.

Ayra Starr explained that she initially expected her recovery to be quick. However, the process became more difficult after the procedure turned out to be more complicated than doctors had anticipated.

She apologised to her supporters, whom she calls Mobstarrs, for her reduced online presence and assured them that she would return after getting enough rest.

The singer did not reveal the nature of the surgery or provide further details about the health condition that led to it.

She wrote, “Hey Mobstarrs, I’m sorry you’re not seeing as much of me as I would like. I had major surgery a few days ago. I was hoping it would be a quick recovery, but it was more complicated than they expected.

“I just need a bit of rest, and I’ll be back!!! Starrgirl is coming so soooon. I need everyone out there spreading the word, tell your friends, your family, your neighbours!!! Order Starrgirl ASAP!!!

“Love you guys,” she wrote.

Despite recovering from the procedure, Ayra Starr continued to promote her forthcoming project, Starrgirl, and encouraged fans to place their orders.

In another Instagram update, the singer revealed that she had personally signed copies of the vinyl edition and CD inserts.

She said, “Hey Mobstarrs. I’m signing my first vinyl and CD inserts. Go to shop.ayrastarr.com. Go get your vinyl and your signed CDs,” she said.

Her message has reassured fans who had raised concerns about her absence from social media.
It also comes at an important period in her career as she prepares for the release of Starrgirl and expands her work beyond music.

Fans recently got their first look at her acting debut following the release of the official trailer for the Hollywood fantasy film, Children of Blood and Bone.

The film features Ayra Starr alongside several international and Nigerian stars, including Viola Davis, Idris Elba, Cynthia Erivo, Damson Idris and veteran Nollywood actor Richard Mofe-Damijo.

Her appearance in the film marks a new chapter in her career after gaining international recognition through music.
