Beauty experts are increasingly advocating for a wider range of beauty products specifically designed to address the diverse needs of black women, many of whom find themselves marginalised by mainstream beauty standards.
These experts emphasise that black women embody a rich variety of body types, skin tones, and hair textures, each contributing to their individuality and beauty.
In response to this pressing issue, the Hartland Hair and Beauty Salon has taken a significant step forward by committing to providing tailored services and products that cater to the distinct needs of black women.
They were announced at the relaunch party of the Harland Hair and Beauty Salon, held in Wuse, Abuja. One of the chief executive officers, who prefers to be addressed as Tania, disclosed that the beauty industry in Nigeria can still improve in promoting beauty standards that don’t relegate body diversity.
She noted that Harland Hair and Beauty Salon, which has been in the beauty business for 14 years, through its relaunch aims to create an inclusive environment where its clients can embrace and celebrate their uniqueness.
“We are relaunching, and our initiative reflects a growing recognition within the beauty industry of the importance of representation and the need for offerings that truly cater to a wide array of skin tones and hair types. We started as a supply brand; now we are focused on services in hair, makeup, nail tech, and other beauty services. Hartland hopes to empower black women to feel confident and beautiful in their skin, while also urging other beauty brands to expand their offerings to honour the diversity of their clientele,” Tania said.
The General Manager of Hartland Beauty Hair and Salon, Juliet Nwankwo, reiterated this commitment, emphasising the brand’s dedication to providing products that celebrate the unique beauty of black women, particularly those in Nigeria.
She noted, “Beauty is diverse; it transcends stereotypes. Numerous products cater to the various shades and skin textures of black women, and at Hartland Hair and Beauty Salon, we are committed to creating those opportunities.”
