Pop superstar Britney Spears and her husband of 14 months, Sam Asghari, have reportedly split. The news comes after weeks of speculation about the couple’s relationship status.

According to TMZ, Asghari filed for divorce from Spears on Friday, citing “irreconcilable differences.” The outlet also reports that Asghari is seeking spousal support and attorney fees.

Spears and Asghari met in 2016 on the set of her music video for “Slumber Party.” They got engaged in September 2021 and were married in June 2022.

The couple’s split comes just months after Spears was freed from her 13-year conservatorship. The conservatorship, which was controlled by her father, Jamie Spears, had given him control over her personal and financial affairs.

According to TMZ, the origin of their issues come from Sam engaging in a confrontation with Britney regarding rumors of her infidelity. Although the source of the rumor remains uncertain, Sam’s belief in it led to an altercation between the two.
