Catch Up: Events That Shaped The Previous Week
The previous week gave us several lessons to last a lifetime about timing, fate, and maybe luck. From breaking records in less than a month to getting the best deals.
Here are some of the trendy stories that made the previous week:
Netflix announced Squid Game as their most-viewed film at launch, with over 111 million views in the first 28-days since its release. In its announcement, Netflix noted that the film had “broken through beyond our wildest dreams.” The Korean film is currently listed as the #1 show on Netflix’s Top 10 lists in 94 countries globally. It is also the first South Korean show to become the #1 show in the United States. The nine-part series takes over as the No1—spot from the period drama Bridgeton which had recorded 82million views in the first month of its launch. For a series with no known faces, amazing is not in the top three words to qualify it.
Good news for Adele fans as the singer announced November 19 as the release date for her long-awaited sixth studio album ‘30’ in an official statement on social media. Describing the album as ‘ride or die,’ 30 is Adele’s fourth studio album, coming six years after her last one. Describing it as “Absolute mess and inner turmoil”, I guess we all know what to expect. It’s tissue season, people.
All That Ends Well
The internet went abuzz when the news of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s divorce settlement broke. The reality star was awarded the $60 million estate in Hidden Hills, California, where the couple had lived while married. On the other hand, Kanye recently listed his Wyoming ranch for $11 million and seven other commercial properties in the area. This news came as a shock to many, especially as the couple had openly supported each other in the last few months. In fact, Kim had shown up at one of Kanye’s Donda shows wearing a wedding dress. Looks like the Kardashian luck never runs out.
Tiwa Savage released the visuals for her trending single Somebody’s Son featuring Brandy off the Water & Garri EP. The emotional song has risen to popularity, trending home and abroad and also becoming a TikTok challenge. The video recorded over 1.2M videos in the first 12 hours of its release on YouTube. Nicki Minaj is also a huge fan of the single, revealing that it had been on repeat for weeks on her playlist in the comment section of Brandy’s post announcing the video release.
Nicki Minaj was getting all the heat this week after a live video of her and Jesy Nelson. The former little-mix star was accused of blackfishing in her latest single, “Boyz“ and Nicki Minaj showing support for her had accused people of bullying her. Responding, many Barbz fans argued that the rapper was problematic and had also bullied Little Mix’s Leigh-Anne Pinnock in her comments. She was also accused of letting down her community; the Barbz took to Twitter to express their displeasure, with many of them folding up their Nicki flags, removing her sticks and tossing out her merch. Who would have thought?!
