Celine Dion Makes Comeback At Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony
Celine Dion, the Canadian music singer, has made a comeback to the world stage, delivering a performance at the Paris Olympics opening ceremony. This marks the singer’s first live concert in four years, after revealing her diagnosis of Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS), a rare neurological disorder that has impacted her health and vocal abilities.
Celine Dion’s opening ceremony performance
Dion’s appearance at the Eiffel Tower is the highlight of the four-hour opening ceremony. The 56-year-old singer, known as the “queen of power ballads,” took center stage on the first level of the iconic French landmark, accompanied by a pianist, and performed a stirring rendition of Edith Piaf’s classic L’Hymne à l’Amour.
Dion’s vocal ability was on full display as she belted out the high notes, dressed in a beaded white gown with tassels.
In December 2022, Dion had announced that she was taking a break from professional commitments to focus on her health after revealing her SPS diagnosis.
This disorder affects the nervous system, causing muscle spasms and rigidity, which had previously affected her voice.
However, Dion has not allowed her diagnosis to sideline her completely. Earlier this year, she made a surprise appearance at the Grammys to present an award, and has also teased a new residency in Las Vegas, hinting at her plans to return to the stage.
In a June interview with the BBC, Dion expressed her excitement about her comeback, saying, “We have been working so hard to put this show together – because I’m back.” The singer has been undergoing therapy to “rebuild” her voice. Her performance at the Paris Olympics opening ceremony shows that the treatment is proving effective.
