Duchess Of Sussex Meghan Markle Reveals She’s Of Nigerian Heritage
The Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle, has revealed that she is 43 percent Nigerian.
In an exclusive podcast interview, she told told Nigerian-American actor Ziwe that she discovered through a genealogy search that her roots can be traced to Nigeria.
When asked to confirm her tribe in Nigeria, Markle disclosed that she intends to “dig deeper into all of this.”
Ziwe described the information as “huge for our community”, also stating, “No, honestly, you do look like a Nigerian, you look like my aunt Uzo. So this is great.”
Meghan has been outspoken about being biracial but has only recently started digging deeper into her roots.
In a 2015 published essay, Meghan Markle noted of her mixed race “Being biracial paints a blurred line that is equal parts staggering and illuminating.
While my mixed heritage may have created a gray area surrounding my self-identification, keeping me with a foot on both sides of the fence, I have come to embrace that. To say who I am, to share where I’m from, to voice my pride in being a strong, confident mixed-race woman.”
In September 2019, she talked about her racial heritage for the first time since marrying the Duke of Sussex.
