12th GAHAwards targets sustainable change, growth, resilient African leaders
Aimed towards championing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for lasting impact, the 12th Edition of GMYT African Humanitarian Awards (GAHAwards), themed, “Against All Odds,” is set to honour exceptional leaders who are transforming Africa’s business landscape.
According to the organisers of the awards, the event, which is billed for December 7, 2024 at Cube 65, Royal Box, Lagos, Nigeria go beyond recognition, but also focusing on sustainable change by addressing critical United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that are essential for long-term growth and resilience in African businesses.
The GAH Awards will spotlight SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), celebrating leaders who foster economic prosperity, build resilient infrastructure, and drive collaborative solutions. These goals align with the event’s mission to empower businesses and leaders to create a positive legacy for future generations.
This year’s GAH Awards will feature expert panels with insights on the following: Building Systems for Resilience: Strategies for implementing structures that withstand economic shifts and challenges; Legacy and Succession Planning: Guidance on ensuring that businesses continue to thrive across generations and Creating Enabling Environments: Exploration of government and financial sector roles in supporting sustainable business growth.
The panel discussions will delve into how African businesses can adopt critical systems to ensure long-term resilience, the role of government policy in fostering or hindering business sustainability, how businesses develop succession plans to empower future generations etc.
Remarking, Convener GAHAwards, Dr Princess Kelechi Oghene, said: “In Africa, businesses face unique challenges that impact their longevity and success. From limited access to funding to a lack of structural support, African businesses struggle to build sustainable legacies. The GAH Awards seeks to address these systemic issues, empowering leaders with the tools, insights, and partnerships necessary to create resilient enterprises that endure. Through policy advocacy, accessible financial resources, mentorship, and community support, the event aims to create a framework for sustainable growth across the continent.”
