Reality television personality and entrepreneur, Natasha Akide, popularly known as Tacha, has explained why she chose to host her Guinness World Record attempt for the most makeovers completed in 24 hours in Nigeria rather than the United Kingdom, where the event was initially planned.

Speaking during a brief break on Sunday at the Tacha Beauty Festival, taking place at the John Randle Centre for Yorùbá Culture and History in Lagos, Tacha said her decision was motivated by a desire to spotlight Nigeria’s creative talent and showcase the potential of the local beauty industry to a global audience.

“The plan was London. We already had plans, we had a brand that wanted to sponsor us — NYX,” she said. “But I said, London is not that country that will give me the vibe I want. Then I thought, see my people, they are here. It always makes sense to carry your country along. At this point now, I’m putting the Nigerian beauty industry on a freaking global map.”

The media personality revealed that the project had been in development for two years, adding that the timing now felt right to bring it to fruition.

Tacha began her 24-hour makeover marathon on Saturday night, aiming to complete 150 makeovers within the timeframe. By early Sunday morning, she had reportedly achieved 115 makeovers in 12 hours, already surpassing the existing record of 113 makeovers completed in 24 hours.

The record attempt is part of the ongoing Tacha Beauty Festival, which runs from 10 to 12 October, and features activities celebrating beauty, creativity, and cultural identity.

Tacha also dedicated the effort to her late mother, stating that much of her ambition and determination stems from personal motivation.

Despite experiencing brief power interruptions during Saturday’s session, she continued her routine without major disruption, completing each participant’s look within minutes before sending them to a photo booth and runway for display.
