Nigerian cinema is set to shine on the global stage as BRS Studios confirmed that its new feature film, Stitches, will make its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) 2025 in Canada.
Directed by award-winning Ghanaian filmmaker Shirley Frimpong-Manso, Stitches marks her highly anticipated debut in Nollywood.
The film follows the story of Boma, a gifted fashion designer who rises from modest beginnings to compete in Lagos’ elite fashion scene.
As she pursues her ambitions, Boma must also navigate the complexities of love and identity in a world where glamour and pressure often collide.
The film brings together Nollywood icons Dakore Egbuson-Akande and Regina Askia to lead the cast, supported by rising stars Adaobi Dibor, Obinna Okenwa, and Tosan Anyafulu. The line-up also features Jemima Osunde, Tomi Ojo, celebrity stylist Swanky Jerry, broadcaster Frank Edoho, Chimezie Imo, and comedian-turned-actor Nasboi.
Produced by Chris Odeh, Stitches is set against the vibrant backdrop of Lagos, weaving themes of romance, ambition, and fashion into a contemporary narrative that captures the city’s cultural pulse.
Its selection for TIFF’s Industry Selects programme, one of just ten films chosen, positions it among the festival’s most promising global titles for acquisition and distribution.
For BRS Studios, which launched in 2024, Stitches represents another significant milestone.
Founded by Joy Efe Odiete, Ramsey Nouah, and Chris Odeh, the studio made an impressive entrance with Tokunbo, a Netflix hit that charted in the top 10 across more than 50 countries.
Speaking on the film’s debut, Odeh in a release described Stitches as a celebration of creativity and resilience.
“This is a story about love, identity, and ambition; but at its heart, it is about the resilience and creativity of young Africans. We are thrilled to bring this story to a global stage at TIFF,” he said.
