Nollywood veterans, Zack Orji and Patience Ozokwo, were among practitioners in the Nigerian movie industry recognised for their contributions to the growth of the movie industry at the maiden edition of Film And Video Producers And Marketers Association of Nigeria (FVMAN) award.

The ceremony, which attracted marketers of Nollywood films, actors and media personalities took place at Festac, Lagos, last weekend.

According to FVMAN chairman, Emeka Samuel Aduah, the award was aimed at rewarding some of the legends who have made immeasurable contribution towards the growth and development of the Nigerian film industry.

Promising to make the ceremony a yearly event, Aduah noted that no reward is commensurate with what these actors/actresses have done so far, but an encouragement such as awards will spur them to do more.

Speaking after receiving the Nollywood Evergreen Award, Orji said, “Every month, the Nigerian Film Industry produces a minimum of 50 films because FVMAN is there; without their support, there won’t be Nollywood and because of their steadfastness over the years, the industry has become the envy of the whole world.”

Omoni Oboli who got the Pacesetters Award, said, “this award is different because it’s coming from FVMAN, an association I belong to. Without them, Nollywood will not be where it is today, they’ve been the one pushing Nollywood and for them to recognise a young producer like me, take me for a pacesetter, it’s such a huge honour.”

When asked about her latest movie, Okafor’s Law, she said, “I based my movie on everyday experience, on what people say and I make stories out of them; Okafor’s Law is something that is widely known in Nigeria, I was amazed to hear that such a law exists, while having a conversation with a group of friends. The law states that if a man has been with a woman before, he always has access to that woman. And one of them asked me ‘why don’t you make a movie out of it’ which I oblige.”
