Here are five Valentine’s Day inspired cake ideas and recipes:

Strawberry Shortcake Heart – Is a classic shortcake topped with fresh strawberries and whipped cream, cut into a heart shape and dusted with powdered sugar.

Red Velvet Love Cake – A rich and moist red velvet cake filled with a layer of cream cheese frosting and decorated with heart-shaped decorations.

Chocolate Raspberry Truffle Cake – A rich chocolate cake filled with raspberry preserves and frosted with a smooth chocolate ganache, decorated with fresh raspberries and drizzled with more ganache.

Rosewater and Pistachio Cake – A delicate and floral flavoured cake made with rosewater and topped with a pistachio buttercream and decorated with dried rose petals.

Heart Shaped Fruit Tart – A sweet and tangy fruit tart made with a shortbread crust, filled with a mixture of fresh berries and a touch of lemon curd, and decorated with a heart shaped lattice crust.

Strawberry Shortcake Heart Cake:
Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup strawberries, diced
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • Red food coloring

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F. Grease and flour a 9-inch heart-shaped baking pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a separate large bowl, beat butter until creamy. Add in eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  4. Add in half the flour mixture, then half the milk, and mix until combined. Repeat with the rest of the flour mixture and milk. Stir in vanilla extract.
  5. Pour batter into prepared pan and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Let the cake cool completely.
  7. In a large bowl, beat the heavy cream and powdered sugar until stiff peaks form.
  8. Add a drop or two of red food coloring and beat until desired color is achieved.
  9. Spread the cream over the top of the cake and sprinkle with diced strawberries.

Red Velvet Heart Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting:
Ingredients:

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 oz red food coloring
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tsp white vinegar
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 8 oz cream cheese, at room temperature
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease and flour a 9-inch heart-shaped baking pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, beat sugar and butter until light and fluffy. Add in eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  4. Add in half the flour mixture and mix until combined. Stir in vanilla extract and food coloring.
  5. In a separate bowl, mix together buttermilk, vinegar, and baking soda. Add to the batter and mix until just combined.
  6. Pour batter into prepared pan and bake for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Leave the cake to cool completely.
  8. In a large bowl, beat cream cheese and butter until creamy. Gradually add in powdered sugar and vanilla extract and beat until smooth.
  9. Spread the frosting over the top and sides of the cake.

Chocolate Heart Cake with Raspberry Buttercream:
Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 cup raspberries, pureed
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 4 cups powdered
