You can grill corn with the husks on or take about 2-3 layers of the husk off to give way for easy access to the heat. Take caution in doing this so you don’t take most of the husks off leaving the kernels to close to the severity of fire.

Things Needed

  • 6 ears fresh corn (or as much as you want)
  • Gas Grill
  • Fire

Preparation I

  • Build fire in your grill, leaving one side free of coals. When coals are covered with grey ash and the temperature is medium (you can hold your hand 5 inches above the coals for 5-7 seconds to determine hotness), you are ready to cook. For a gas grill, turn all burners to high, lower cover and heat for 15 minutes-then turn burners to medium.
  • Stack corn (with husk) on grill and cook, turning often, till the corn is tender and some of the kernels are beginning to darken- bring down and serve immediately.
  • Best eaten while hot.

Preparation II

  • Soak corn in water first. There’s no need if you are working with fresh corn to begin with.
  • The process grilling takes about 5 minutes using a gas grill and about 30 minutes or more on a coal, depending on hotness.

Preparation III

  • Pull back the husks, take out the silks, and then put the husks back over the corn before grilling.

I’ve tried that. It does make it easier after the corn is done when removing the husks. But this leaves the corn to easily dry out leaving little nutrients for consumption, so by experience I have learnt the best way for juicy grilled corn to remain sweet and nourishing is to not mess with the husks.

Preparation IV

  • Pull off a few of the outer husk leaves, leaving less of a barrier between the outer leaves and the corn, for more charring to reach the corn.

Preparation V

  • Add milk, unsalted butter and kosher salt-for varieties.
  • With this method, pealing the husk in part is needed so as to apply these ingredients after which you push them forward again for grilling.
  • Best served hot
