Logistics manager to music star Davido, Israel Afeare, popularly known as Israel DMW, has announced the burial arrangements for his late father, Eric Afeare, who died earlier this year at the age of 71.

The burial programme, made available to The Guardian, shows that funeral activities will be held in both Owan East Local Government Area and Benin City, Edo State.

According to the schedule, the late Eric Afeare’s remains will leave Igue Mortuary on Thursday, July 9, 2026, and be taken to his residence in Oguedo Quarters, Ievbu-Ake, for a social wake.

A funeral service and interment are scheduled for Friday, July 10, at the deceased’s compound in Oguedo Quarters, Ievbu-Ake, Owan East Local Government Area. The burial ceremony is expected to commence at 10 a.m.

Further activities will continue on Saturday, July 11, with an afternoon wake at the family residence from 2 p.m.

A thanksgiving service will be held on Sunday, July 12, at the Redeemed Christian Church of God in Ake, beginning at 10 a.m.

The final event of the burial programme, a reception for guests, is scheduled for July 19 at Crown Heart Pavilion, Country Road, Benin City, from noon.

The late Eric Afeare, a retired Deputy Superintendent of Police, died on March 2, 2026, at a hospital in Ibadan, Oyo State, following a brief illness.

Speaking after his father’s death, Israel DMW described him as the pillar of the family and a unifying force whose influence kept the family together.

“It is sad losing my father at this time. We still need him with us, but God knows better,” he said.

“He was my pillar of strength, and he was instrumental in making the family an indivisible unit.”

The deceased is survived by two wives, eight children and several extended family members.
