Global streams for Afrobeats increased by 34% in 2024 – Spotify

Music streaming giant, Spotify, has revealed that global streams for Afrobeats increased by 34 per cent in 2024.
This was announced at the Spotify Wrapped party in Lagos, over the weekend.

The Lagos event, which wrapped up Spotify’s annual celebrations following earlier editions in Johannesburg and Nairobi, honoured the global success of Nigerian music this year.
Spotify disclosed that local music consumption on its platform also saw rise, surging by 146 per cent.
Speaking on the milestone, Phiona Okumu, Spotify’s Head of Music, Sub-Saharan Africa, described the event as a testament to Nigerian music’s growth and its global influence.
“The Wrapped party was a testament to the growth of Nigerian music on Spotify this year. Witnessing the energy and the sheer talent on display was truly inspiring. We’re incredibly proud to be supporting the next wave of stars and celebrating the global impact of this vibrant music scene,” Okumu said.
The celebration featured performances by a dynamic lineup of artists and DJs, showcasing the talent fuelling Nigerian music’s global appeal. Artists like Ayo Maff, Morravey, Zerrydl, and Brazy captivated the audience with their sets, while DJs such as DJ Tunez, London, and DJ YK Mule kept the energy high with their mixes.
