I was Mykel Parish, founder of the Nollywood Travel Film Festival (NTFF) who broke the news on his social media handles on Thursday. The good news is that the successful hosting of the NTFF in Athens Greece last week has produced a big fruit: ‘Greece Nigeria Film Week’ that will feature film screening, conference, film market, networking and tours.

The inaugural edition has already been fixed to hold in Athens, Greece, from October 5 through to October 8. This was how Mykel Parish who wrote from Greece broke the news: “We are excited about the future of Nollywood and all the new opportunities coming. Yesterday, we had a meeting with one of our strategic partners in Greece, Pantelis Kalatzis and Violette KontoDaimon of Showtime Productions, to perfect plans and agreement to host a significant convergence of Nigerian cinema outside Nigeria. I am happy to announce that the ‘Greece Nigeria Film Week’ will have its inaugural edition in Athens, Greece from 5-8 October 2022.”

In a congratulatory message shared on their social media handle, the Embassy of Nigeria in Greece, which collaborated with Parish to host the NTFF in Athens, noted that the Embassy was extremely happy to witness the start of a wonderful partnership between Nigerian and Greek filmmakers borne out of the just concluded Nollywood Travel Film Festival held in Athens in collaboration with the embassy.

“Congratulations to Mr. Mykel Parish and his team at Nollywood Travel Film Festival. We wish you great success in your efforts and work to promote Nollywood to new audience around the world,” the Embassy wrote, adding that promoting cultural exchanges and encouraging cultural synergy between Nigeria and Greeks remain a priority for the embassy in Greece.

Founded in 2016, the NTFF is reputed as Nigeria’s biggest and foremost travel film festival. It hosts screenings of Nollywood films in cities around the world and it has so far been held in cities including, Berlin, New York, Glasgow, Helsinki, Peru, Toronto and Amsterdam. The 2022 edition kicked off in the city of Athens, Greece on Thursday May 27 and closed on May 29. It held under the theme: Experience Nollywood.
