Highlights Of The Access Bank Lagos Marathon
The third annual Access Bank Lagos City Marathon has come and gone but not without leaving some memorable events.
Given its previous success, the organisers witnessed an overflow of people trying to get into the race. The race saw over 8,000 applicants submitting their forms after the submission day bringing the record attendance to 165,000.
Among the number, over 100 top marathon runners competed for the prize money of $50,000 (N18 million), $40,000 and 30,000 (N10 million) for the first, second and third place in the male and female category.
45,000 people ran in the 10km family race while 125,000 competed in the 42km race.
The marathon which kicked off from the National Stadium and ended at the Eko Atlantic saw the two-time winner and Kenya-born Frenchman Abraham Kiprotich come out tops to win the $50,000 (N18 million) while Ronny Kiboss and Peter Benjamin emerged second and third.
In the female category, Ethiopia’s Herpha Guta emerged the winner in the female category, while Girma Getachew and Ayelu Hordofa took second and third place.
Asides the healthy competition, those who participated will definitely remember it as an exciting approach to keep fit and meet new people.
