On the 6th, 8th and 10th May 2019, The Bankole Thomas Foundation put smiles on the faces of 900 pupils across Lagos state.

The foundation whose mission is set to improve the standard of education in Nigeria did so by providing 900 uniforms to school children in government-owned schools – Anthony Model School, Kosofe, St John Primary School, Arolaya, Lagos Island and Unity Primary School, Amuwo Odofin.

The inspiration behind this feat is the rising rate of out of school children in Nigeria. Young pupils are out of school for a number of reasons, this is why the Bankole Thomas Foundation is positioned to reduce the number of out of school children.

Nigeria is ranked as having the highest number of out of school children in the world. A survey has shown that the population of out of school children in Nigeria has risen from 10.5 million to 13.2 million ( UNICEF).

In a statement made by a representative of the foundation, he said the one of the focus of the foundation is to improve children’s self-esteem, emotional wellbeing and aid to learning. In a bid for sustainable development, the Bankole Thomas Foundation is not just enhancing quality education but empowering low-income tailors through the production process thereby promoting decent work and economic growth.
