The social media space has been known to function as a tool for promoting the sharing of information and creative content worldwide. As millions continue to engage on various social media platforms; Instagram, Facebook, Whatsapp, Twitter and many more, social media has transitioned into a voice for airing strong opinions, breaking new ground in society.

Keenly championing this narrative is multi-award winning musician, Timi Dakolo. The husband and father of three have since been speaking in loud volumes about societal values and socio-political standards in society through social media, especially Twitter.

Through tweeting, the Nigerian-Ghanaian songwriter and producer have highlighted the social and political problems in the society with emphasis on Nigeria, giving the people a wake-up call for societal reforms.

During one of his many scrutinies of the Nigerian society, he tweeted; ‘Be honest, what notable achievement has happened to your state since your governor assumed the role of a governor’ in another he wrote, ‘Truth is truth, break it, drown it, cover it, blend it, or even paint it. The thing is truth will always be truth and it will survive all this on its own, Victory is truth realised’.

Attracting hundreds of thousands of likes, comments, and retweets, Timi Dakolo’s tweets continue to probe the government and teach the public the great values of life. His messages of hope, love, unity and a need for a change in society, have proved influential in the digital space. Hence, his tweets keep making rounds on blogs and trending topics across various social media platforms.

As an advocate for good Governance and National unity, Timi Dakolo infuses his stance into his Art. Making his music a reflection of hope for a systemized society, better governance, empowered youths, well-structured security, and National peace.

Over the years, he has written and put out soulful and liberating songs like “Wish Me Well”, “There’s A Cry”, “Great Nation”, “Everything (Amen)”, and many more. These songs have come to be loved by many in Africa and beyond the shores of Africa.

To date, his song ‘Great Nation’ released in 2011 is a national anthem to Nigerians, hinting at the strength the nation wields, when we all come together to build each other in love, unity and respect.

In an exclusive interview with ‘Showtime’, he revealed that: “The inspiration behind ‘Great Nation’ is my love for Nigeria…, letting Nigerians know that we need to make this country work and we can only do it together.”

With the years gone since releasing ‘Great Nation,’ Timi Dakolo Continues to stay true to his heart, passion and love for his nation. With multiple plays and covers from artists all over the world, Timi Dakolo’s music has made an impact in giving a sound to love, faith, the people and their cry for a revolution.

Notwithstanding, he is still a lover. His love for family and romance shines through his music too.
