Layered necklaces are ever so popular with everyone, from celebrities to regular people wearing them to create a statement look.

In fact, a quick browse through Instagram, TikTok or Pinterest would reveal the popularity of stack necklaces, with some people wearing as many as 4-5 at once. The idea behind this is to combine two or more necklaces (coordinating or clashing) of different lengths, materials, weights and colours to create a balanced look.

However, layering necklaces involves much more than piling on different pieces; there’s actually a method to the madness. Here are five tips to help you create the best layered necklaces look:

Start With A Two-Strand Rack : The first step to layering the right way is first to create a base. Start with a two-necklace combination; each chain should be similar in thicknesses.

If you choose to include a charm necklace, make sure it lays at the bottom, after which you can add more pieces in varying textures, thicknesses and lengths.

This creates dimension, making sure your jewellery doesn’t look like a clump. For a subtle ‘everyday look’, try mixing necklaces close in thickness and length.

DIY A Statement Necklace: Charm necklaces have never gone out of style and remain a great way to personalise your accessories. Whether it features your favorite animals, flowers or lucky charms, charm necklaces are for everyone.

To create a statement look, try mixing metals and thickness; mix a thin chain with a much thinner charm chain to create one big statement necklace.

Choose A Different Metal: When mixing metals for stacked necklaces, pick a dominant metal and another subtle compliment metal for a seamless transition. Switch things up with a small dose of contrast in your stack, or by wearing a different toned earring.

Mind Your Length: There’s a lot more to stacking than mixing gold, silver chains with pearl and beaded necklaces. Make sure each necklace is of a different length so they lay above each other for a balanced look.

A great example is to mix a 16 inches pearl necklace, a charm necklace at 18 inches with a plain chain at the base to balance and frame them.

Opt For Adjustable Necklaces: Finally, a great piece of advice for layered necklaces is to find chains that personalize your look. One trick is to clasp chains on a shorter link until you get your desired length. This way, you can make long necklaces shorter and vice-versa.

Try to include necklaces with multiple clasp options or fasten with a string that’ll let you determine where they fall on your neck or collar bone.
