In a post on Twitter, Henshaw said that the only “prayers” going into the “mailboxes” of poor Nigerians are more taxes and burdens. She said that Akpabio’s comments were “insensitive” and “out of touch” with the reality of most Nigerians.

“How can the Senate President talk about prayers for senators when the people they are supposed to represent are struggling to make ends meet?” Henshaw asked. “It is time for the senators to wake up and smell the coffee. They are not serving themselves, they are serving the people.”

Henshaw’s comments come after Akpabio assured senators that “prayers” had been sent to them as they embark on a recess. “In order to enable all of us to enjoy our holidays, a token has been sent to our various accounts by the Clerk of the National Assembly,” Akpabio told colleagues.

Kate took to her Twitter to write; “The only “prayers” going into the “mail” of Nigerians is more taxes, more burdens, more “grin & bear it”, more “we don’t give a f@#k”.

“Happy holidays to the ones meant to serve & bring succour to their constituents. Nothing do una jare.

“What’s the worst that can happen? Morning”

Akpabio’s comments have been met with widespread criticism from Nigerians. Many have accused the senators of being out of touch with the reality of most Nigerians. They have also called for the senators to be more transparent about how they spend their allowances.
