The practice of tattooing has been around for thousands of years. A Tattoo is perceived as fashion and art. Most of our favorite celebrities have these great designs on their skin, but People with tattoos in our African society are grouped under the indecent category. Most organizations do not employ applicants that wear tattoos in places that can be easily spotted. Many individuals choose to undergo tattooing in its various forms. Whatever their reason, individuals should be aware of some reasons why tattoos are not necessary in order to make an informed decision. Some of these reasons include the following;

INFECTION: Tattoo instruments come in contact with blood and bodily fluids. Diseases may be transmitted if the instruments are used on more than one person without being sterilized. Such infection include; HIV, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, tuberculosis, staph infection, Tetanus, Tumors, carcinomas etc, most of which are caused by an unlicensed tattooist. Other common infections include; red rashes, swelling, and pain which results due to lack of needle sterilization or bacteria-contaminated ink.

REACTION TO INKS OR METAL: People who are sensitive or allergic to certain metals may react to pigments in the skin with swelling or itching. Reaction to tattoo inks, whether it is a temporary tattoo or a permanent is common. Worst is, those who are allergic to tattoo inks (especially the red and yellow inks) or metals generally, may not know until the deed is done. These reactions are generally triggered by exposure to sunlight.

SCARS AND BUMPS: As the body attempts to remove the ink substance, bumps or small knots may form around the tattoo area leaving ugly scars on the body. Some skin reactions for people with highly sensitive skins can also worsen due to tattoos.
BURDEN ON LYMPHATIC SYSTEM: Lymph nodes may become discolored and inflamed with the presence of tattoo pigments. Some pigment migrates from a tattoo site to lymph nodes where large particles may accumulate. When larger particles accumulate in the lymph nodes, inflammation is likely to occur.
