Mercy Aigbe, Toyin Abraham call out cinemas for not showing their movies
Popular Nollywood actresses Toyin Abraham and Mercy Aigbe have expressed frustration over reports of some cinemas not showing their latest movies.
The actresses took to social media to voice their concerns, urging cinema operators to be fair in scheduling and to ensure equal opportunities for all filmmakers.
Mercy Aigbe, in a post on Instagram today, December 28, 2024, apologised to her fans for the situation, revealing that some cinemas were not showing her latest movie, Thinline.

“Good morning beautiful people, I have been getting a lot of complaints about some cinemas not showing Thinline despite having showtimes. Please, I want to apologise. We are working on it, and hopefully, this will be resolved soon,” she wrote.
Similarly, Toyin Abraham, while celebrating her movie Alakada Bad and Boujee hitting N58 million in cinemas, also noted that it wasn’t being shown in many cinemas.
“With an overwhelming outpouring of love, kindness, and compassion from fans all across the country, we were able to make this as our opening weekend figure. Thank you for watching and supporting us.
“Without expecting gifts or inducements at the box office to buy our tickets, you’ve stood by us, and we are deeply grateful. However, we’ve learned that Alakada Bad and Boujee isn’t showing in many cinemas,” her post partly read.
Meanwhile, Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele continues to dominate the box office with her latest movie, Everybody Loves Jenifa.
The film shattered records in the diaspora, grossing over $190,000 within eight days of its premiere, after raking in N783 million in its first 14 days in Nigeria.
Taking to Instagram to celebrate the success, she wrote: “$194,560 and counting in just 8 days, who else but God? :raised_hands: Huge thanks to my tireless cast, fabulous colleagues, and unstoppable Jenifans. YOU are the true superstars.”
