Nigerian music producer Opeyemi Adedayo, popularly known as COAST_PROD, is steadily building a reputation beyond music production through his growing commitment to talent discovery, mentorship and creative development within the entertainment industry.
Speaking during a recent interview, the producer reflected on his involvement in talent hunt platforms, describing the experience as more than just evaluating performances or producing songs.
According to him, the journey has been about identifying raw potential, understanding young creatives and helping upcoming artists discover confidence in their abilities.
“It was never just about judging performances or making music behind the scenes. It was about understanding raw talent, recognising potential and helping artists see what they could become with the right direction,” he said.
COAST_PROD explained that his close involvement with talent discovery initiatives exposed him to the realities many aspiring musicians face, including self-doubt, limited opportunities and the struggle for creative identity.
He noted that the experience has significantly influenced his approach to music production and artist collaboration.
“Working around talent discovery spaces gave me a deeper understanding of artists at different stages, from those still searching for confidence to those ready to take their sound further,” he stated.
Industry observers say this people-centred approach is one of the qualities that distinguishes the producer from many of his contemporaries. Beyond technical production skills, COAST_PROD is increasingly recognised for his ability to connect with artists emotionally and creatively.
“Behind every vocal take, every melody and every unfinished idea, there is an artist trying to communicate something real,” he added.
Long before gaining wider recognition within the Nigerian music scene, COAST_PROD had already begun establishing himself as a promising creative talent. In 2014, he emerged as Best Producer at Obafemi Awolowo University, a milestone many close associates described as an early indicator of his growing influence in music production.
Over the years, he has continued to strengthen his portfolio with notable projects, including production credits on Pakaleke by Flykid in 2021 and Congratulations by Jason in 2024.
Stakeholders within the creative industry note that beyond the records and production credits, COAST_PROD’s sustained involvement in talent development reflects his broader contribution to Nigeria’s entertainment ecosystem, particularly in mentoring and supporting emerging artists.
As his career continues to evolve, the producer is increasingly being viewed not only as a sound engineer and hitmaker, but also as a creative force helping young talents transform uncertainty into artistic expression.
“I’m interested not only in finished music, but also in the journey that leads to it,” he said.
With a growing catalogue of work and a deepening role in artist development, Opeyemi Adedayo appears poised to remain an influential figure in Nigeria’s music industry — both as a producer and as a mentor shaping the next generation of talents.
